towards the unknown

Wandering along a path of brown, fallen leaves
Taking small, deliberate steps
In a direction you don't know

Moving with the tide of nameless faces through scenes
That play out all around you
As you consider your role

You pick up your pace and you lift up your head
Looking outwards to something
That the world means to show

You have love in your heart and faith in yourself
Trusting it all will work out
Even if now you don't know.

i know what love is

I might not know yet if my path here is this
But one thing is sure, I know what love is

I know what it is to give away your heart
And to trust in another; not be one but a half

I know what it is to share your deep fears
To show them your soul, and plan out the years

I know what it is not to know what to do
When they told you one day, that they'd die here for you

And I know what it is to feel like you'd die
Without them around you couldn't laugh, smile, or cry

I know what it is to feel something so great
That you cannot turn back, sit silent, or wait

I know what it is to look at their face
And see your eyes in theirs, two people one place

And I know what it is when that dream crashes down
To the reality of loneliness that echoes no sound

Of babies unborn and futures unread
Alone in your dreaming, alone in your bed

Your fears you face solo and you know that it's true
There are others much similar, but none are for you

I know what it is to walk far, far away
From something so perfect, but at the end of the day

I know what it is to know it's not right
And risk all the comfort, to fight the good fight

I know what it is to be nothing but true
And I'll know what it is...

When I meet you.

echoes of drums

there is a distant calling
of something great
it's yours for the taking
but for now you must wait

your head it throbs
with the pressures of time
shoulders slumped forward
a mountain to climb

through cracks you see clearer
as the light starts to spill
round the edges of hollows
knocked down to rebuild

vulnerability and triumph
when you step off the race
and trundle on forward
at your own steady pace

against all the traffic
in the dark night of day
your calling you hear it
you're going your way

the stillness and calmness
around you, you feel
not empty, but peaceful
what broke can now heal

picking flowers from footpaths
you wander and stray
the drum it beats slowly
to come and what may
