it is all within me

I turned a corner today
And I found myself facing the right direction
Towards a place of self-actualisation
And a breeze of feeling that anything is possible

I can do all of the things that I want to do
I can be all of the things that I want to be
My fists clench with excitment when I am thinking of you
And my toes curl with knowing that it is all within me.

your own slot in time

You know when you're stuck
In a place that feels stale
You're stuck in a rut
You follow your tail

You know there's more out there
To meet and to see
Surges of passion
Plunge into the sea

Unfamiliar waters
Pulling you down, pulling deep
It's dark in the daytime
You're awake when you sleep

Then there are places you've been
Where your heart feels much lighter
The fields are much greener
And the sky is much brighter

All the people you meet
Have no time and no place
They stand in that street
And they look at your face

And some come up to you
To walk on your path
To share this life's moment
Make you smile, make you laugh

They ask where you are going
They ask where you've been
And you tell them your story
And you share all your dreams

They look in your eyes
They might hold your hand
Your heart skips a beat
Writing letters in sand

Then their turn is next
You listen, intent
But the time comes again
Paths reaching their end

You stand there alone
Prickle trickle of tears
Another time passed
More memories, more years

You have no companion
No partner in crime
Just you on your journey
Your own slot in time.

breathing under a patient sun

Breathing under a patient sun
On the edge of a precipice
A vastness of land opens before you
Waiting for you to jump.

You are drawn into the unknown
But rooted to the earth
Strands of energy clinging to you
Where you stand.

Whispers of promise
pull you from a distance
your fists clench
your heart pounds in your chest.

Each beat
like a distant thunder clap
tells of a storm brewing within
shifting.

The gravel crunches underfoot
jolts behind your kneecaps
the heat from a beast at your back
warm, pungent breath on your neck.

You stand on the edge of the precipice
safer with the devil you know
but wise enough to realise
you need to jump.

towards the unknown

Wandering along a path of brown, fallen leaves
Taking small, deliberate steps
In a direction you don't know

Moving with the tide of nameless faces through scenes
That play out all around you
As you consider your role

You pick up your pace and you lift up your head
Looking outwards to something
That the world means to show

You have love in your heart and faith in yourself
Trusting it all will work out
Even if now you don't know.

i know what love is

I might not know yet if my path here is this
But one thing is sure, I know what love is

I know what it is to give away your heart
And to trust in another; not be one but a half

I know what it is to share your deep fears
To show them your soul, and plan out the years

I know what it is not to know what to do
When they told you one day, that they'd die here for you

And I know what it is to feel like you'd die
Without them around you couldn't laugh, smile, or cry

I know what it is to feel something so great
That you cannot turn back, sit silent, or wait

I know what it is to look at their face
And see your eyes in theirs, two people one place

And I know what it is when that dream crashes down
To the reality of loneliness that echoes no sound

Of babies unborn and futures unread
Alone in your dreaming, alone in your bed

Your fears you face solo and you know that it's true
There are others much similar, but none are for you

I know what it is to walk far, far away
From something so perfect, but at the end of the day

I know what it is to know it's not right
And risk all the comfort, to fight the good fight

I know what it is to be nothing but true
And I'll know what it is...

When I meet you.

echoes of drums

there is a distant calling
of something great
it's yours for the taking
but for now you must wait

your head it throbs
with the pressures of time
shoulders slumped forward
a mountain to climb

through cracks you see clearer
as the light starts to spill
round the edges of hollows
knocked down to rebuild

vulnerability and triumph
when you step off the race
and trundle on forward
at your own steady pace

against all the traffic
in the dark night of day
your calling you hear it
you're going your way

the stillness and calmness
around you, you feel
not empty, but peaceful
what broke can now heal

picking flowers from footpaths
you wander and stray
the drum it beats slowly
to come and what may

my happy place

There are walls I can climb
There are fields, they are green
Do you know what they said
When I entered the scene?

This place it is yours
Run hither and to
No need to wear shoes
No harm here for you

The spongy new plant beds
Pink petals for toes
And buttercups shine sunlight
Right under your nose

My hair it flew free
Catching light in the air
No watch on my wrist
No time and no care

This place is not real
But I go when I choose
Escaping the darkness
Escaping my blues
